They say innovation starts with imagination. Let me take you on a journey—a journey of redefining tourism through passion, persistence, and a vision that goes beyond the ordinary. I’m Steve Borgia, and this is my story.
At the heart of INDeco Leisure Hotels lies a commitment to preserving history and sharing it with the world. Nowhere is this more evident than at the INDeco Swamimalai museum. It is no ordinary collection of artifacts; it’s a living chronicle of South India’s vibrant history and culture. Every exhibit has a soul—from intricately carved sculptures to rare manuscripts and heirlooms that whisper tales of centuries gone by.
Let me tell you about the Mint Palace—a 17th-century heritage gem we rescued from the brink of oblivion. After a hard-fought legal battle, we took the bold step of dismantling the palace and transporting 232 tons of history 400 kilometers from Chennai to Swamimalai. It was a colossal effort, demanding 72,000 man-hours, 58 lorry trips, and an unrelenting spirit. Today, this masterpiece stands proud as the centerpiece of our museum, showcasing the artistry and ingenuity of its creators.
INDeco Hotels Swamimalai isn’t just a hotel; it’s a movement. Recognized as the 6th best idea to save the planet and India’s first global eco-tourism awardee, we’ve transformed hospitality from mere shelter to unforgettable experiences. The museum at INDeco Swamimalai goes beyond static displays. It’s an immersive experience designed to educate and inspire. Guests can marvel at traditional artifacts, witness the revival of dying crafts, and engage in interactive sessions that bring history to life. Accredited by the American Association of Museums, this space celebrates the heritage of Kumbakonam and South India while preserving it for future generations.
Our commitment doesn’t stop at curation. The museum is also a hub for reviving and sustaining local traditions. From preserving the art of handloom weaving to promoting folk performances, we ensure that every aspect of heritage finds a platform. Guests leave not only with memories but with a profound connection to the culture and history of this land.
While the museum remains our crown jewel, the ethos of INDeco Hotels is deeply intertwined with community welfare and sustainability. I’ve always believed tourism should go beyond showcasing destinations to visitors. It must benefit the people who call those destinations home. That’s why everything I’ve done—as Vice President of the Indian Heritage Hotels Association, founding member of the Ecotourism Society of India, Chairman of the Rural Tourism Society of India, and Chairman & Managing Director of INDeco Leisure Hotels—has focused on people, communities, and sustainability. From employing locals to sourcing materials responsibly, every step we take is rooted in making tourism meaningful. Yet, it’s the stories housed within our museum walls that truly define who we are—custodians of the past, and storytellers for the future.
So here’s my message: tourism isn’t just about travel; it’s about transformation. And at INDeco, we’re proud to lead the way—one artifact, one story, one journey at a time.
